About Westgate Cocoa Beach Pier
Built in 1962 as the Canaveral Pier, this 800-foot Atlantic Ocean pier is one of the most recognizable landmarks on Florida's Space Coast. The first stretch is free to walk; fishing with your own gear runs about $7 (rod rentals available for around $20), and the pier opens at 6 a.m. year-round.
Anglers regularly pull in redfish, black drum, speckled trout, sheepshead, flounder, pompano, and β depending on the season β tarpon and grouper. No shark fishing or chumming is allowed, out of respect for the surfers working the break below.
Beyond fishing, the pier is home to several restaurants and bars, gift shops, and live music, making it as much a Cocoa Beach institution as a fishing spot. Bait, tackle, and fishing licenses aren't sold on-site for the general public, so plan to bring your own or stop at a nearby tackle shop first.
Researched and verified August 2026. Hours, fees and access change β and Florida piers are regularly closed by storm damage β so confirm with the operator before travelling. Spotted something out of date? Tell us.
